Cary Adgate
BOYNE Racing Program Director
Olympic, World Cup & Professional Skier
Cary Adgate has enjoyed a career which is among the most distinguished in American ski racing history. Cary competed for eighteen years at the world-class level – nine as a member of the U.S. Ski Team and nine as a touring professional on the World Pro Skiing and U.S. Pro Tours. A six-time winner of U.S. National Championship titles, Cary was a member of two U.S. Olympic Teams (1976 & 1980). His successes in World Cup competition included five top-five placings.
Following his years on the World Cup circuit, Cary became one of the most decorated professional ski racers in history, with 25 tour victories and 71 top-four finishes.
After drifting away from skiing and ski racing in the 1990’s, Cary came back to the sport with more enthusiasm than ever in 2003, when he was named BOYNE Resorts Ski Ambassador. With a new-found excitement for the sport driven primarily by big improvements in ski equipment performance, Cary started racing again, and competed successfully in USSA and open competitions. In the spring of 2005 Cary took the opportunity provided by a family ski vacation at Big Sky, Montana to compete and win slalom, giant slalom, and overall at the U.S. Masters National Championship. He was named Ski Racing Magazine’s 2005 Masters Ski Racer of the Year.
A skier for life, Cary was inducted in 2008 into the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame for his contributions to the sport.
